http://solid.rayform.ch sol.id is an installation for the campus of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) that “paints" with sunlight, creating portraits of four luminary figures in science and design. Advanced computer algorithms precisely calculate the curved surface of four reflective metal panels that are then realized in physical form using high-precision digital fabrication technology. The panels redirect sunlight onto the ceiling of the main arch of the Rolex Learning Center at EPFL to reveal an ever-changing display of light. Realisation: Romain Testuz - LGG, Rayform, EPFL Dr. Yuliy Schwartzburg - LGG, Rayform, EPFL Prof. Mark Pauly - LGG, Rayform, EPFL http://lgg.epfl.ch http://rayform.ch Design consulting: Sony Devabhaktuni - ALICE, EPFL Dieter Dietz - ALICE, EPFL Fabrication consulting: Alfred Thomas - ATPR, EPFL Claude Cheseau - ATPR, EPFL Project supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation Agora grant nº151499 Videography / production: Adrian Meredith - CAUSE (http://cause.ch) Additional filming: Alain Herzog, Jamani Caillet Music: "Tangier" by Tony Anderson, The Music Bed 2015
